The Department of Nephrology provides comprehensive health care for patients with different types of renal (kidney) diseases. Acute and chronic renal diseases caused by diabetes mellitus, hypertension, stone disease, infections, hereditary illness and poisons are diagnosed and managed.
The department offers two types of dialysis; Haemodialysis, in which the patient's blood is filtered by an artificial kidney and peritoneal dialysis, wherein a soft tube called a catheter is used to fill the abdomen with a cleansing liquid called dialysis solution. Those with end-stage renal disease are given the option of either haemodialysis or Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD).
The department is doing +1300 dialysis per month now, state-of-the-art dialysis unit have been in place, providing cheap but quality dialysis, doing dialysis round the clock , including ICU dialysis, which is very important in critically ill patients and added CRRT to department brings the edge, and separate beds for COVID patients along with special filters for COVID apart from this ,SLED, plasmapheresis, peritoneal dialysis are being done along with vascular accesses OPD, IPD patient care is done with utmost care. Real time kidney biopsy is another procedure which is very important in making diagnosis and prognosis of kidney diseases. Kidney Transplant patients work up; pre & post-transplant care is being done.
