Our Paediatrics Department provides a full-range of clinical services and tertiary care for the newly born, children and adolescents up to the age of 18. We have excellent Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units.

The Paediatrics Department is staffed by experienced doctors and nurses who provide a lavish tender loving care, with first-rate medical treatment, to the young patients.

The babies admitted to NICU are the ones that have had preterm birth, low birth weight, breathing difficulty, low blood sugar or infection among other problems. Experienced physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists, who work in the NICU, are available 24/7.

Often, the young patients are referred by various specialities including cardiac, nephrology, medical, trauma or oncology. Our paediatricians work closely with consultants from these specialties to ensure that children receive the best possible care regardless of how complicated their condition may be.

The department enjoys the back-up support of the Imaging Division, Laboratory and well-equipped Operation Theatres.

SMH offers the following services :

  • A 12-bedded PICU & NICU facility with six senior consultants attached to it round-the-clock.
  • A multi-disciplinary critical care support from medical, surgical, neurosurgical, orthopaedic, otolaryngolic as well as post-operative cardiothoracic divisions.
  • Bedside invasive cardiac monitoring, paediatric ventilators and monitors, pulse oxymeters, oxygen sensors, phototherapy units, warmers (open-care system) and other facilities.
